Club Med 2 Cruise ship in Molde, Norway
During a trip to Norway, on a gloomy morning in Molde, I had a chance to observe how gracefully and silently one of the most elegant and comfortable cruise liners in the world, the five-mast sailboat Club Med 2, approaches the pier.
The vessel belongs to the French company Club Méditerranée, specializing in the organization of exotic and exclusive vacation. The sailboat was built on the shipyards of Le Havre and launched in 1992. The construction cost the customer 3 million euros.
A five-mast vessel with a displacement of 14,983 tons and a length of 187 meters can carry 7 oblique sails with a total area of 2,400 square meters, sewn from Dacron - a durable and very light synthetic material. The sails are controlled by a computer system. The crew consists of 214 people, most of whom are engaged in tourist service, as all control of the vessel and its systems are fully automated.
In addition to the sails, allowing you to go at a speed of 10-12 knots, the ship has a traditional engine-two diesel-electric installations, which provide a speed of up to 17 knots.
The floating resort accommodates 392 tourists in cabins of 3 categories: 5 suites, 10 Junior suites (Suite) and 170 standard cabins equipped with the most modern equipment. It offers tourists restaurants with gourmet cuisine and live music, evening balls and shows.
For lovers of outdoor activities on the ship there are two swimming pools - indoor and outdoor, Spa, sports and gyms. During the stops, guests can enjoy water skiing or surfing, as well on board there is diving equipment.
From board the Molde-Vestnes ferry I happened to once again see the sailboat, already in all its glory.
In the summer, the ship cruises in Europe, in the winter goes to the Caribbean. Tours are organized by the principle of "all inclusive" - from air tickets and meeting at the airport to the delivery of lunch in the cabin. In 2008, the vessel was awarded the highest sea qualification of comfort, "5 Trident".
